The University of Houston

Beginning as a small commuter college in the 1950’s, the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON SYSTEM has grown exponentially, mirroring its namesake city.

Currently, the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON serves almost 100,000 students with campuses such as UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON – CLEAR LAKE, UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON – DOWNTOWN, UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON – Central Campus, UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON – SUGAR LAND CAMPUS, and through its affiliation with UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON – VICTORIA.

Each location has its own personality, structure, and course of studies, with UH-CLC UH-Downtown, and UH-Victoria offering degree programs.

The University of Houston – Central Campus near downtown Houston is the main location, with over 40,000 students attending classes. The Central Campus is also where all the men’s and women’s sports teams are located.

The Hilton School of Hotel & Restaurant Management operates a hotel on campus, and graduates hundreds of degreed professionals yearly who wish to work in that industry. These graduates are highly prized for their knowledge, training, and diversity.

The Gerald Hines School of Architecture, The CT Bauer College of Business, The Cullen College of Engineering, the School of Optometry, the School of Law, and the College of Pharmacy offer undergraduate and graduate degrees among the top ranked for public universities in the country.

Of the sports teams, the University of Houston Cougars have excelled over the years in most major sports, including UH-FOOTBALL, UH-BASKETBALL, and UH-BASEBALL. All of these sports have participated in the NCAA tournament, and achieved high rankings in the polls. The UH-GOLF team has won multiple national championships.

The unique mascot for the University of Houston is Shasta, a live cougar. Shasta attends home games and its distinctive growl can unnerve opponents.

The University of Houston – Central Campus operates almost like a small city, with its own LIBRARIES, POLICE DEPARTMENT, BOOKSTORE, RESTAURANTS, HEALTH & WELLNESS CLUB, and of course, the STUDENT UNION.

CEO’s from many S & P 500 companies have attended UH, and received business or graduate degrees in business from Houston’s Hometown University.

With an active ALUMNI base, UH-FOOTBALL has achieved record sales of season tickets to its home games at ROBERTSON STADIUM for the 2010 Football Season. Ranked among the top teams in the country and featuring a potential Heisman Trophy Candidate in QB-Chase Keenum, UH-Football expects a monster season.

The University of Houston offers an active campus life, with INTRAMURAL SPORTS PROGRAMS, THE STUDENT UNION, and dozens of things to do every week.

The Daily Cougar is an on-campus newspaper, published by students and available throughout the campus.

The newly completed Fraternity and Sorority complex gathers all the “Greeks” together in one secured location.

TAILGATING before UH-FOOTBALL and UH-BASKETBALL games has become a growing tradition, come out hours before game times and mingle with the crowds!
